 The mission of the Colleton County School District is to ensure that all students meet or exceed state standards in preparation for becoming productive citizens. The districtl's strategic plan is focused on improving student academic achievement and character, teacher quality, parental involvement, and community support.
Colleton County School District is comprised of 7 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 1 high school, and 1 career technology center and serves approximately 6,000 students.

Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, a school uniform policy was implemented for all schools.
 In 2007 the Colleton County School Board approved a $90 million plan for facilities improvements which included a new high school. The new Colleton County High School will open in the fall of 2011. The curriculum and education will be based on the career cluster program where students prepare for their future career goals by following class tracks that specifically concentrate on their selected career path.

Thunderbolt Career & Technology Center serves approximately 800 students each semester on a Block Schedule in one or more of fifteen instructional labs.á Program offerings include fifteen of the sixteen South Carolina Career Clusters and twenty of the twenty-nine Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).á

We recognize the need for 21st Century technical education in our community in order to assist Colleton County in competing within a global economy and ensuring a quality of life unique to Walterboro and our surrounding townships.á Forty-nine percent of the students at Colleton County High School participate in at least one course here at TCTC.á We also have participation from home school students and encourage private school students living in Colleton County to consider enrollment in courses here as well.
